Noir and romcoms aren’t so far apart — not just because I adore them both. Some films traffic in tropes from both, as this BW/DR piece on It’s a Wonderful Life sums up nicely. One of the quick-witted-est romcoms of them all is His Girl Friday, with its funny little twist on the femme fatale and a plot heavily featuring the death penalty and a woman driven to suicide by The Establishment.
